Launch Event of HATE HUNTERS: Not Just a Game - But a Novel Approach to Education

Extremists are increasingly infiltrating gaming platforms and chat rooms to spread their hateful ideologies. Social media is also witnessing a surge in radicalisation, as seen in countless cases and plots thwarted in Austria and Europewide. It's high time we create meaningful counter-narratives and take action in the very same digital spaces these extremists inhabit, but with positive storylines.

We therefore proudly present HATE HUNTERS, a mobile game born from the EU-funded GameD project. The game serves as both an entertaining experience and an educational tool. Young people can embark on solo missions within the game and delve deeper into the topic through an educational approach, where they collaborate with their peers to create counter-narratives against hate speech and extremist mindsets. It's all about fostering an open, curious, and positive outlook on the world.

The game is available for free on Apple's App Store and Google Play.

But our event goes beyond mere gameplay. It provides you with deeper insights into the problem of hate speech and how experts on the topic of extremism, radicalisation, youth work and (serious) gaming, who will be present at the event, suggest to address it in an innovative and fun way. The event will not only allow you to play the game and try it out yourself, but will also guide you on how to use it practically, with the help of the developed pedagogical material, in youth work, in a school class setting or in other educational environments.
